Do squirrels make good pets?
Even though Squirrels are small and cute creatures but is it a good option to make them pets? In many places, it is even illegal to keep these animals as pets. Therefore, it might not be a good option but along with legal ones, there are other reasons that why squirrels do not make good pets. If you will have to go out of your house say on vacations or any business tour then you just can't leave them alone at home. You will have to look for a house sitter who could take care of them. If you have kids at your place then squirrel can be harmful to them. Squirrels do not attack anyone unless they feel they are in danger. As kids actually don't know how to be with animals so they can irritate them and squirrel's sharp nails can be really dangerous for them. Not only are their nails even their small teeth are harmful. Squirrels have a very weird way regarding eating different things. If something looks good to them, they will eat it, doesn't matter if it is wall paper, furniture or any other household thing. Another thing related to their teeth is that their teeth will keep growing throughout their life. When they are living in wildlife then they eat different chewing material which helps in keeping them healthy. If they will not get adequate material then it can cause them illness.

When keeping Squirrels at home, you will have to take proper care of their diet because they need a proper natural diet which is expensive in the market and not found easily. To collect their natural diet, you will have to spend hours looking for their adequate diet. If you have a party at your place then squirrels will be your special guests. This is because they are really fond of fast food and they will steal your food. So, you will always have to keep the food covered. You just can't keep them in open all the time in your house. For their comfort, you will have to provide them with proper large sized cages. Moreover, they like to keep different kinds of materials and food in their nest (a cage in this case) so after some days the cage will become stinky. Therefore, you will have to clean it regularly. If you will keep them in the cage for a long time then it will put effect on their health. Squirrels look quite energetic and thus they will keep on jumping here and there in your whole house which will get frustrating for you.

The last but the most serious issue of keeping them as pets is as squirrels are wildlife animals so from the medical aspect they might carry different kinds of diseases, fleas etc. which can be harmful to your whole family. Therefore, it is better to let them enjoy in their natural habitat as they also deserve to be free and they are not made for this purpose.
